Using a mixed-methods approach, it surveyed 450 households with children under five, conducted water quality tests from 50 sewage points, and held focus groups with 30 caregivers. Data came from household questionnaires on sanitation habits, lab analysis of fecal coliforms in water, and health records from local clinics (2023-2025). Analysis included logistic regression to link sewage faults to diarrhea odds, chi-square tests for risk factors, and thematic review of interviews. 1.1 Background of the Study

Diarrhea is a top killer of kids under five around the world, causing loose, watery stools that lead to dehydration and death if not treated fast. In 2023, it took about 297,000 young lives globally, mostly in poor countries where dirty water and bad waste handling spread germs like E. coli and rotavirus (Prüss-Ustün et al., 2019). The World Health Organization says unsafe water, poor toilets, and bad handwashing cause 88% of these deaths, hitting Africa hardest where over 60% of cases happen (WHO, 2024). Simple fixes like clean pipes and covered waste pits can cut risks by up to 50%, but many places still lack them (Merid et al., 2023). This shows why checking sewage links to child health is key for saving lives.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
