Data collection included questionnaires on intervention participation, fecal coliform analysis from January to July 2025, and health records from local clinics. Analysis used regression models to assess intervention impacts on disease rates, chi-square tests for participation factors, and thematic analysis for qualitative insights. Findings reveal that 62% of households engaged in interventions like communal drain clearing, reducing diarrhea incidence by 28% (from 19% to 14%) and cholera risks by 22%; however, low funding limited reach to 45% coverage. Barriers included inconsistent support and flooding. Recommendations advocate for scaled-up NGO partnerships, low-cost tool subsidies, and policy integration to enhance sustainability and cut hazards by 40% by 2030.

1.1 Background of the Study

Globally, poor sanitation contributes to 829,000 deaths annually, with sub-Saharan Africa bearing 40% of the burden due to inadequate infrastructure (WHO, 2024). Community-led interventions, like collective clean-ups and education campaigns, have proven effective in reducing risks by 25-35% in similar settings, fostering ownership and sustainability (Guiteras et al., 2023). 1.3 Objective of the Study

The primary objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of community-led interventions in mitigating sewage-related public health hazards in Kubwa District’s informal settlements.

Specific objectives:

  2. To measure their impact on health outcomes like diarrhea and cholera incidence.
